DESCRIPTION:William Hunter (1718–1783) studied medicine at Glasgow Univer
 sity and\, in London\, became physician to Queen Charlotte. His vast colle
 ction of anatomical specimens\, books\, coins\, and pictures was bequeathe
 d to the University along with £8\,000 to build a museum (High Street\, o
 pened 1807 – Scotland’s oldest public museum).The present museum (open
 ed 1870) includes subsequent acquisitions. Displays featuring the Antonine
  Wall and Roman settlement in Scotland\, or the history of medicine in the
  west of Scotland and scientific innovation in Glasgow\, are worth a visit
