SUMMARY:Midhope Castle and Abercorn Church
DESCRIPTION:Midhope Castle was first mentioned in 1458\, occupied in 1582 b
 y Alexander Drummond and his wife Marjorie Bruce. In 1678 the castle was a
 cquired by John Hope and is now part of the Hopetoun Estate. Parts of Aber
 corn Church date from the 1100s\, but it was subject to a major rebuild in
  1893. Archbishop Trumwine\, a Northumbrian\, was appointed here in 681 AD
 . There are some old gravestones from the 1600s\, and a museum that houses
  Viking hog-back burial stones and a carved cross-shaft dating back to the
  600s.Please bring a packed lunch and wear appropriate clothing.
