SUMMARY:Newbattle Abbey and the Site of Inveresk Roman Fort
DESCRIPTION:Newbattle Abbey was founded in 1140\, burned by the English in 
 1385\, 1544 and 1548: what remained in 1587 became part of a mansion for t
 he Marquis of Lothian. It experienced extension\, modification and finally
  conversion for use as a college. It is also home to Archaeology Scotland 
 and we have arranged to be shown around by Jane Miller. In the afternoon w
 e will visit the site of the Roman Fort at Inveresk\, near Musselburgh.Ple
 ase bring a packed lunch and wear appropriate clothing.
